Research Project
on AI and Chip

In the summer of 2022, I moved from Korea to the Bay Area,
where I became fascinated by how world-class technologies and
industries were unfolding around me.
Starting in August 2023, I began an independent research
journey focused on AI and chip technologies, exploring a new
topic each month through self-guided study and investigation.
With guidance and encouragement from Professor Joungho Kim
at KAIST—whom I’ve known since middle school—I was able to
stay motivated and continue learning with purpose.
This slide deck is a reflection of the knowledge, insights, and
growth I’ve experienced over the past 13 months, and I’m
excited to share it with others who may find it meaningful.

Since December 2024, I’ve been conducting research that connects AI with the concept of heritage. Drawing on my personal experience as a Korean heritage speaker, I began exploring how AI can support language learners like myself. I’m currently writing a research paper focused on optimizing a Grammatical Error Correction (GEC) model using datasets from heritage speakers. The goal is to develop AI tools that can more effectively detect and correct English writing errors made by learners whose native languages are typologically similar to Korean.
This project is especially meaningful to me, as it allows me to explore how my interests in technology and identity can intersect and expand through the lens of language.
I hope you’ll support my research and follow along as it develops.

IT Education Volunteering

In the summer of 2024, I have been working with friends in the IT community to share our skills with others. Through the fall and winter, we supported seniors by showing them how to use everyday technology to stay more easily connected with society, family, and friends. For children, we offered lessons in the basics of coding, helping them develop logical thinking and become more familiar with programming.
We created our own materials and curriculum, and continued with one-on-one and small-group sessions tailored to each learner.
Moments of sharing even small pieces of knowledge—seeing seniors smile with newfound confidence and children’s eyes sparkle with curiosity—have brought me great joy and a deep sense of fulfillment.
